An article in the News-Press discussed Mr. Kessler’s book, The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite. The article’s writer (no name given) made conclusions that Kessler’s solutions to our food obsessions are not helpful at all.
However, my take on the book is this…Mr. Kessler has at least acknowledged some truths about the food industry’s insatiable need for the bottom line regardless of who is being hurt by its policies & manipulations!
Yes, maybe he doesn’t do well with solutions, but he’s making valid points & by doing so brings to the attention of the public what kind of damage is being done by the food industry & restaurants, alike! I recently wrote about AWARENESS being the first steps to change. Well, here it is in black & white! The man is an ex-FDA policymaker. Hopefully, he’ll be able to find a way to take on Big Food the way he did Big Tobacco!! I’m rootin’ for him. The American appetite is in need of downsizing. I agree strongly in his beliefs that adding lots of sugars, fats & salt to food really does make them irresistible. The more of them you eat, the more you want! Speaking from experience here!
