Dieting is Out! Eating more Healthfully is In!

June 23rd, 2009 · No Comments

Choosing a diet plan over sensible eating may be reason enough for you to gain back all, or even more than, the pounds you lost on the plan!  Stop dieting!  More & more people are listening to the research that points to less calorie counting on low fat or high carb diets & instead, choosing more wisely.  This is really good news!

It’s been around for many years-the notion of eating well, exercising regularly, & reducing stress to better your quality of life.  It isn’t a fluke that large numbers of people, young & old alike, are hitting the gym for their workouts.  And…it isn’t unusual to see many people educating themselves by hiring personal trainers & others with greater knowledge in nutrition to be sure what they’re doing is effective!

Going back 20 years, you’d see very few adults engaged in fitness activities solely to stay fit & healthy.  The word is out there.  Unfortunately, it hasn’t made it quite far enough.  There are still way too many adults & children who are overweight with many to the point of being obese.

How can we help these people?  We have to reach them through community centers, the YMCA, the YWCA, schools, via programs that can help them understand good nutrition & wellness practices.

For years children in schools were taught about the disadvantages & health risks of smoking.  Now there is a need to teach them to teach their parents how to eat sensibly.  If one grows up never being exposed to vegetables and whole grain products, how can others expect healthy choices to then be made?  It’s kind of like expecting a German, who’s never eaten peanut butter to eat it as an adult.  Trust me, that’s an impossibility!!  Been there & done that!  Won’t even go into the details.  The food product is & always will be intolerable to people if their experiential past doesn’t include this exposure!  Not gonna happen.  Period!

Children are more open than their parents to try different foods.  Given the right circumstances, not forcing them, but matter-of-factly exposing them to quality foods could be the path to better health & wellness for them & their families.

We need to educate people on the health hazards of greasy fried, sugary sweet, high caloried foods so prevalent on today’s supermarket shelves & in restaurants. These items are being sold knowingly to consumers who are unaware of their poor quality, & thus unaware of their damaging effects to their bodies & overall health!               Sorry I’ve been on a soapbox!   Stephanie
