Had lunch today with a group of 7 women & myself. It’s amazing how differently men & women are with regard to eating & how they feel about it!
When my husband goes with his buddies after a golf outing, they head for a pub to get a cold beer & sandwiches or burgers.
Today we women went to a quaint little town strictly for the antiquing & little cafe offering the best pie around. So, how did we order? Well…my friend & I split a sandwich. Then, we ordered some “veggies” to go with it. The veggies were green beans, collard greens, potato salad, & Waldorf salad. Yeah, I know it’s a weird combo, but we could pick & choose, so we did just that. The four of us at my table had either water or iced tea to drink, but left room for pie.
Here’s a big difference between the men & women: The four of us split 2 pieces of pie. Can you imagine 4 men splitting pie? They wouldn’t share a crumb with another guy, I dare say!
Also, can you imagine splitting a sandwich? Or purposely choosing a joint without beer on the menu?
It’s sad to think of another difference. Men want something? They order it! No excuses for what they’re getting. Just do it! Women order something the least bit fattening & they’ve got to excuse themselves for ordering the dish. There was fried chicken among the specials. One of the women ordered it, but had to explain she hadn’t eaten fried chicken in 20 years!
One could say this conversation took place because I was among them, but really they don’t know all that much about what I do. They don’t know my connection with healthy eating & nutrition. These friends are fairly new acquaintances. They are what I would say typical women for our times.
Women need excuses to eat unhealthily around other women. They could eat well 99% of the time, yet out with others, they need to explain their aberration.
This behavior won’t change anytime soon. Women will continue to be careful & justify their choices, while their husbands will choose something they won’t find on the dinner table very often at home!
Somehow life simply doesn’t seem fair. In my next life I’m coming back as a dog. Won’t have to worry about how things appear to others. Will rummage through garbage cans to find scraps of food whenever my master gives me healthy foods to eat! I’ll be oblivious & won’t know or care! So there! Stephanie
